Hey guys,
I have a 12.5i talon superwinch and just before xmas i was going to wind the rope back on as i had it tied around my front bar. It pulled in about a foot and then stopped and all you can hear is the relay clicking. I have finally got around to checking it over and when you try winding the winch in and out it is getting voltage to the terminals on the winch but it still does not move. Has anyone heard of/experienced this before? It has barely been used so it seems strange. I have managed to get it to free spool out which wasn't easy but it did move and then re engaged the clutch and that didn't work either. Anyone have any ideas?
Talon Super Winch has stopped working
Re: Talon Super Winch has stopped working
my guess would be the motor or gearbox has seized, seems unlikely though as they are well sealed... if you measure the voltage on the motor terminals does it drop when you select in or out?

A mates did same thing. Same winch and not very old. Had voltage on terminals but no current draw. Was a stuck brush. Apparently not that uncommon.

no the voltage doesn't drop which makes me think there is a stuck bush. Thanks for that Wayne. I will pull the end off tomorrow.

Also check that the 2 plates that hold the brushes are still isolated from each other. My winch stopped working because there were little plastic grommets isolating the rivets that hold the plates together and one of the grommets melted (oops, bit of operator over use) and it was shorting through the rivet. Drilled out, bit of plastic sleeve and stole a bolt from the boys mecanno set and it was all good again.
