LN65 Wellside Lux - what is it worth?

Post by Swaney »

Hey there,

Use to be an avid 4WDer a few years back but Kids came and life got put on hold in that regard. Have a LN65 which has been pretty much sitting (except for the odd drive to the shop - used say twice a month). Rego has been onhold for a couple of years now.

Anyhow the vehicle has sat outside in two winters with a cheap cover on, the cover has not worked like it should and let the water through which has now helped to speed up the cancer in it

Which leads me to the bad part....
Took it for a pre-WOF the other day and was told the sad news, has some rust which is the WOF mans concern for passing a WOF. Looks like some surface rust on the firewall and a body mount was the main concern.

You can see where it has been previously cheesed up around the sills (although not ½ bad cheesing to be fair, but needs a paint). Has a rust in the floor pan. On the whole the paint work is in bad shape, it was blue originally but been given a cheap respray to white during some stage of its life. Needless to say the white is coming off in spots to show its life back when it was a blue truck. Oh also one of the doors has previously been bogged at the bottom and repainted.. looks a bit lumpy now to say the least

Also the rear right handbrake isnt working (most likely needs cleaning and putting back together again – quite common with the hilux) and the rear diff is clunking when spinning.. hoping the lockright is out of alignment or the likes... this part surprised me as the diff was replaced ~1,000km at a guess (around 3 years ago) by 4WD Upgrades.. although it did get one river crossing after being replaced and I didnt drain the oil in the diff afterwards which may have lead it the issue..

Interior is in average nick other than the vinyl on the roof which is pealing off (needs re gluing)..

Its pretty rough but bear in mind it was made in 1984 so has lived a long life..

But the good parts of it..
1. Has a 3L 2.8 non turbo in it in good nick.. was taken from a 90's HiAce before I owned.. was told it had 80000km on it and Ive added around 10000km at a guess since then.. never missed a beat
2. has front & rear diff locks - lockrights done by 4WD upgrades with 4.88 diffs.. rear diff was also upgraded to the bigger diff from a v6 surf... this was done around 1000km ago at a guess.. rear diff now has some clunk (as mentioned earlier)
3. has detachable front & rear 9500lb winch.. uses a resee type hitch with forklift attachments for power
4. Dual truck batteries installed for loads of battery power for when winching.. pretty sure batteries are 680CCA
5. Has 32" maxxis mudders on it.. still some good life in them yet (although far from new)
6. Lifted to same height as a SSR 4wd.. looks like a 5" body lift.
7. Wellside tray has been shortened to help with over hang.
8. Old school toyota rear, front & front side bull bar
9. Wellside tray has a metal cover with tred plate which is ideal for hunters (can stand 3 people up there safely)

plus the following mechanical maintenance:

10. late last year had the front pulley shaft replaced as when i started it up one day I noticed it wobbling..
11. Did a full recon on the starter at the same time (done by Roses Electrical)
12 had the radiator reconn'd a year or so back.. my mate put a screwdriver through it when we were playing with attaching winch.. so pulled it and got it fixed at A1 Radiators
13. Has always had oil changes etc when in use..

Im ½ tempted to a-frame it for awhile and have some fun.. but Mrs being ya typical Mrs's wants it gone and “not taking up space like a redneck in the yard”... she is mad ive been spending on it when not even using it lol

When taken out it always seems to get a few stares from the kids and blokes.. looks like a tonka truck

So what do you think it is worth on tardme .. life circumstances have changed and I have no time anymore im tossing up to sell it or swap it etc.. or just keep it and a-frame it (whilst putting up with the nagging)..

Dont really have the time (or skill) to cut back / out the rust and make it pristine again

will put some pics up if u wanna see it

PM me if you looking for a capable bush truck and this suits.. will flick you a text so you can check it out first of course.. would suit hunters nicely with the removable tread deck lid on the back of the wellside (makes great shooting platform)

Might consider swaps for reg'd / wof'd stationwagon
