Hi there, is it worth trying to make an intercooler fit on a 95 Mistral? Its my folk's Nissan and thought it may give them a bit more pep and also help the engine run better/ smoother etc?

Its the normal Mistral that heats up while heading over the Bombays and despite multiple radiator flushes makes not difference....sigh!

An intercooler will help the engine run better but not help over heating issues.
Have you checked the viscous fan hub. This is most probably the problem

Have you fitted a bigger exhaust? Found big differences with mine (wd21 with td27t), power increases slightly, and coolant temp takes (much) longer to climb on big hills. (EGT lower on the hills too)

I had the SWB Mistral for 8 1/2 yrs. Did many trips over to the coast up the Otira incline etc. Even travelled across the ditch north a few times to big AK! Got use to the temp gauge getting up there but made sure things like the water pump, thermostat, belts, coolant, radiator and oil were well serviced. Did 280,000 kms before selling it. No real probs.

are you using factory gauge?
if so replace it with a decent one so you can talk numbers.
factory gauges are generally idiot gauges. by the time it reads hot the engine is almost stuffed.

Its the standard exhaust and can emagine it would cost an arm and a leg to make one up?

Funny you should mention that.......my folks made it from my house near the Hamilton airport all the way to TeKauwhata when they noticed a loss of power..............it was busy heat seizing and the gauge showed 3/4....................had a water leak on a hose.
Good point, I will get them a new temp gauge and install that some where neat so they can be confident its reading right. The EGR valve is blocked off already so im thinking a fan replacement next? What about a full radiator removal and a professional flush at a rad shop some where?
