EGR on a 2004 Nissan Mistral/Terrano

Post by CGalhano »

Hi Guys

I Own a 2004 Nissan Mistral/Terrano II and Im intrested in removing the EGR, however arround where I Live in Portugal and on the Portuguese forums no one can explain how It´s done. Only info i could get was that I have to eliminate the EGR from the car cpu.

hope you can help me, I need all the info I can get....

Thank You.

okay i have just done mine this weekend and have some pic's to make it easier to explain.

firstly you need to remove the rubber hose that actuates the EGR valve at the back of the manifold. after that there is four bolts to undo....two you can see quite easily that bolt the EGR valve to the intake manifold.. and two underneath the EGR valve that bolts the pipe to the EGR valve. they are 12mm heads.

once this is done you need to make a blanking plate to match the gasket on the intake manifold where the egr valve used to be. I used a piece of 5mm aluminium. then bolt it place using a gasket sealer or gasket paper.

once this is done we need to deal to the pipe that leads from the exhaust manifold around the back of the head. Ironically once i had undone the EGR valve on mine with a bit of a wiggle the pipe slid out of its slot in the exhaust manifold and i was able to cut it and pinch it shut with a hammer, then folding the edge over and pinching it again.

Whilst doing this i also took the time to remove the intake mainfold completely and clean it out also removing the butterfly from the intake just below the top mount intercooler.

nice write up Crash bandicoot but pays to check what engine they have and what emission system it has. some of those countries run different engines and also comply to different emissions standards so the egr system can also be different.

That is true. But powers of deduction from sales and export figures would suggest that it is too later model to be a KE24 so, could be a ZD30ddti but the most mass produced one was the TD27ETI...and I think the part number for the valve is the same... in saying that i think it's a no no to remove emissions systems from an engine here as well now.

Thank you for all the tips, now I just have to figure it out what to do on the car cpu, so it doens´t give me a engine failure light, once the EGR is removed.

Also, How can I make the turbo kick in a little early, can I do that mecanicly or I need to repro the car cpu ?

I have a Mitsubishi Pajero Diesel and a Ford Focus Diesel and have egr deleted both of these vehicles by just fitting a blanking plate where the gasses enter the inlet manifold. The computer still thinks the egr is working but as far as I can tell it's an open loop system so there is no feedback to the computer telling it something is wrong. Some countries do not allow for the removal of emission systems which is where the blanking plate is good as the EGR system still looks factory.

If you have a fault code coming up then there is something else wrong. I simply left the little valve's in place on the inner gaurd but removed all the vaccum lines that actuate the EGR.

increase the spring pressure on the wastegate actuator and a good exhaust system with a turbo flow muffler will help alot. also moving the wastegate actuator line from the snail housing on the turbo to the inlet manifold will mean the wastegate "shouldn't" open untill the pressure at the valves has reached the factory set spring rate.

another one is to Chip the ECU.
