Hey guys
Im looking to buy a surf but am stuck whether to get the 3kz diesel 3L n/a or the 3l v6 engine. I sometimes budget for cash with petrol vehicle licensing and gas and was just wondering is getting a diesel really that much cheaper as in will I cope with the added license cost and ruc? And I know diesels cheaper but does it make a big difference in fuelling up and how economical are these 2 engines? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

The 3L v6 is very thirsty and not a good motor.
Go the diesel.

IMO do NOT buy the V6, had for awhile and tho we enjoyed the power and ride it was way too thirsty to run. 320kms to a tank on road and about 120kms in $WD. Thought the fuel gauge was a vacuum gauge it was a real

at the pump. Now running a D/C Hilux with the 3L, love it to bits. Yup a little under powered by happy with economy and reliability. Easy to maintain and consumables from
http://www.staparts.co.nz/ make it easy on the pocket.
If you check on TardMe dont be surprised if most are the petrol for sale, there is a reason

Cheers guys thanks for the input, how many ks would you get out of a tank in the 3L diesel? And how much does it generally cost to fill up?

in a 1kz surf (3 litre turbo) approx 85-90 to fill from dead empty and i would get 600 kms per tank now thats not you getting 600 per tank as i dont know how you drive but it is possible to do around the 10l/100kms.
Dont mess with the v6 Go the deisel

Believe us when we say a 1uz or LS1 are more economical then the 3vz.

on a 1kz check the head viscous fan radiator, if its auto has the trans been regularly serviced, has the engine had regular oil changes, check for leaks

I have had a 2.4t and they are very under powered. They get thrashed hard and do heads/gaskets.

There's no substitute for cubes.... except a turbo (but its just a crutch and not on a 2.4 diesel with toyota on the rocker cover).
3Lt maybe (older model but potentially not as temperamental as 1kz).

Don't touch the 3 litre v6 petrol, or the 2.4 litre turbo diesel. The 2.4 non turbo doesn't do heads, but isn't very powerful.

have had 2 of the
2l-te 2.4 efi turbo alloy head , cheap to run ( a days wheeling on a 1/4 of a tank) but the downside to this is gutless when you add weight bigger tyres . My old blue playdoh would get tyre spin on 33's bouncing off the rev limiter at just under 5k

2.4's suffer from the same head cracking issues as the 1Kz. they work but don't expect a power house ... if you get one replace it with a 3L 5L or 1Kz when it dies
