For a week now the truck has been performing quite badly and have been holding off fixing it as I was going to fit a non eti pump this weekend. ...To get the same desired effect no less. more boost.
I thought i'd clean the AFM for starters, did that shoved it back in and went for a drive, it improved some what but after testing the AFM it was giving an erractic reading even at idle....it's fooked.
knowing they are basically a resistance circut it was a case of what was the right voltage to trick the ecu.
So after googling the wiring and voltage specs for the Hitachi AFM used by nissan it was discovered at WOT that the max voltage reading is 4.8 volts. Anything above that and the reading goes out side the ECU parameters. also know incorrectly as a boost cut....The ECU simply doesn't know what to do so cuts or restricts the fuel.
mine was reading 2.3 Volts at WOT.
The Fix. rummaged through my box of electronics grabbed the Voltmeter and pulled out a bunch of resistors and started testing them till i found one that chopped 14.3 volts down to 4.6.
wired it up to the AFM feed to output signal wire on the afm and went for a quick spin.
My god it's like new again.
The issue now was the afm was reading its max safe voltage even at idle. plenty of black smoke till she got on boost.
It picked up okay getting up through the gears at 5-7psi with a crook AFM so i figured I'd wire another switch to the gas pedal beside the kick down switch for the auto box So it gave the ECU the extra couple of volts over and above the 2.3 it was giving.
job done. for now anyway.
