5l 10 psi at 100kmh

How's things. I think I'm thinking to out of the box on this one!

But I have a 3litre 5l in my hilux, running a td04 turbo.

Runs great but when I'm sitting at 100kms the boost gauge tells me I'm running 10psi

My question is how do I reduce the psi it's sitting at?

Is it bad to be under load for that length of time

Any help would be great I'm sure there's something easy I've over looked

its not always a bad thing.
what rpm is that at?
whats fuel usage like?
egt's?

just trying to gauge what sort of load its under.

It would be sitting around 2200 ish at a guess

Fuel to me is crap I would get about 300 all open road
Around town id get 550-600

And I have a egt but can't remember what it was sitting

Would it be causing any unnecessary wear

sounds like your cruise rpm is to low.
that would explain boost and fuel usage. i suspect egt would indicate that to.
300km per tank open road sounds horrid. try driving in 4th if manual or with OD off if its auto. L series do tend to like the rpm.

here is a comparison.

TD27 ETI nissan
2.7 litre capacity
Intercooled
Computer controlled injection
Automatic gearbox OD is .759:1
4.3: ratio
32 inch tyres
RPM's at 100 kph is 1900 give or take
boost gauge is 5 psi.
curb wieght is 1750 ish kgs
fuel was around 650 700 per 55 litres of round town and open.
on road trips i used to get close to 900kms of a tank but that has changed since changing my diffs though 4.8's and a few other mods.

bout 2200rpm at 7psi and lucky to get 700 with the extra boost etc.

So what would be my best option in lowering/ rising my cruise rpm except for driving in 4th?

And yus it is manual

And yea I would be happy with the fuel usage the same as that ^

Lower diff ratios or smaller tyres.

to give you some idea my 3l with ct20 turbo is running around 3200 rpm at 100kmh (true speed not indicated). a few standard vehicles run around 2900-3200rpm at 100km/h on the speedo.

what diff and tires are you running?

My 3.1TD pulls 2750rpm at a true 100k and runs about 3psi and 200c on the egt guage. Accelerate though and boost hits 12 immediately and egts climb.

L200 4D56 turbo with intercooler, 100k at 2800rpm, it's boosting 8psi on the flat all day long. Even look at an incline and its 11psi, but the wastegate on this one has been fiddled, and it's on 32 inch tyres.

land rover disco 300tdi bigger intercooler and fuel wound up.

2500rpm in 5th at 100kph. boosting bout 8psi running around 250 - 300 deg

get on average 700 out of a tank 800+ if open road. this is on its road tyres bout 29inch

with its 32s muds 2250 rpm at 100kph bout 9-10psi and 300 deg

range drops to 700 open road and 600 ish average.

max boost is 16psi factory.
