Macaulay river crossing

Post by Matbase »

Hi

Will be doing the track to Macaulay hut in a few weeks and wondering roughly how deep the river (crossings) is this time of year haven't read anything saying snorkels are mandatory so was hoping on doing it without for the time being (its on a long list of upgrades)
Thanks for your time
Cheers
Matt

You have to cross the channel a number of times from memory to get to the hut. If you follow the rough line of the track should find the shallowest crossings. I do remember some depth to some especially after rain and that's the issue, if it rains and you have no snorkel it may be dicey coming out again. You going to head up the other valley as well and have a looksee at the glacier and lake?
rain, hail, sleet or snow, we go!
