Diff question

Was stripping the low ratio diffs out of my parts truck in the weekend and noticed the rear pinion bearings had about 3-4mm of play in each direction, is this likely to have damaged ring and pinion gears?

IMHO
That sort of movement will change the position of the teeth mating points.
Unless you can see damage to the gear teeth faces...Should be all good.
Set it up again and check if the teeth wear pattern is still good, backlash etc etc.
