just re mounting my V8 in my hilux. Going to lift it up 40mm for a little bit more clearance etc.. blah blah
However according to my measurements im going to hav a bit of interference with the bonnet, so im cutting a rear facing bonnet scoop. I figuerd if i have to cut a hump for the carb and snorkle elbow then i might as well get a bita air flow outa it
so i wanted to know if anyone else had done so and could shed some light on the topic before i get wild with the grinder and welder. Best way to do so, dos and donts, and of corse Pictures.

and yeah ive already searched 'rear facing bonnet scoop' in the search bar with no luck, but cheers

what year hilux...? and how much "interference"?


for example the bonnet on a KZN130 surf has a hump to clear the 3vz-fe engine and fitted my LN56 diesel lux so it wouldn't hit the cam cover on the skyline engine

I made mine out of 1.6mm sheet metal. Had it all folded up and tigged together and then powder coated. Looked alright for a road going bushy.
It also dropped the engine temp by well over 10 degrees as a bonus. Letting the hot air from off the radiator and headers out. It worked that well that i didn't need defrost on the passengers side of the windscreen. Pity i didn't know this before hand as i spent a lit if time leaning over to look out the left side as my screen was all fogged up ah

with the lack of airodynamics of the truck cab a rear opening scoop will work well at both low and high speed... at low speed as said the hot air trapped in the engine bay can escape up and out with the cooling bonus, and at high speed the turbulent air infront of the windscreen will get pushed down through the engine bay also aiding the cooling.... and if your filter intake is facing back you gain some performance from the ram air effect this was the gain when I was a lad playing with street cars back before the car makers bothered with aerodynamics lol

Oh true didnt think of that, might not be enough tho, it currenty rubs (just) so i need a bout 50mm more to clear nicely.
Its an LN60.

Yea i wouldnt mind a bit of added cooling. how far away from the screen does yours vent and how wide did you make it?

Approx 150 from the rear edge of bonnet

Scoop mouth was 350 x 50 and approx 400 long
