Troublesome Indicators

Post by 94PRADO »

Trying to fix the indicators on my Girlfriends car, its a 99 Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The left hand indictor works normally as it should, Right hand indicator however has a very brief faint flash then nothing. When hazard lights on both indicators function like the right, brief faint flash then nothing.

Im not entirely sure on how they are wired up? struggling to find a clear diagram that I can understand but im guessing itll be similar to my Prados wiring diagram.

If im right in thinking that then both sides share the same flasher relay then this isn't faulty as the left indicator still functions??
Im thinking there may be a short to the chassis somewhere between the flasher relay and right indicators?? Does this sound like the most likely problem?
Any suggestion of where to start looking?

Thanks
Nick

Are all bulbs good? Are there any LED's in there?

Are all the bulb sockets in good nick?

Normally only one flasher unit. Never seen two...

X2 check the bulbs or the mounting where they fit into, just had the same on my Hilux, was a corroded fitting.

Have checked all the bulbs and fittings, all look good.
No LEDS
Trailer connector was full of mud, cleaned that out but no luck with that either.
Im wondering if perhaps it is the combination switch as when measuring voltages at the flasher relay, there is a constant 12v in and flashing 12v coming off it when indicating left but not right.
Any help much appreciated.

Replaced the flasher relay today, plugged it in and tested and it blew the fuse, Measured the current flow at 15amps so have obviously got a short circuit somewhere. I think the short circuit has caused the relay to fail, however surprised that it didn't blow the fuse first.

Use a test light to quickly find the short - put it across the fuse holder then work down the circuit from the end then head towards the fuse. When you unplug or disconnect bits when the short goes out you have isolated it.

is it a 3 pin flasher unit? if it poped the fuse after you fitted it, you fitted the wrong flasher. factory flashers usally have a earth terminal where most aftermarket dont..if it is a 3 pin flasher, and works fine one way, theres nothing wrong with it.
modified surf, hardly drive it seem to keep modifying it....
