Bought a 2nd hand HT18 turbo to fit to standard TD42 motor. Seller let me know before I purchased it that has a slight oil leak into the exhaust which was good and honest of him. Any idea the likely cause of the leak ?
Once the leak is sorted and I've fitted the turbo and associated parts inter cooler etc, I'm guessing some serious tweeking will be required, can anyone recommend an absolute expert guru in or close to Hawkes Bay to set the thing up if I run into problems ?
cheers

Re: TURBO SAFARI
If it coming out of the turbine exit it'll probably need new seals and bearings and maybe a balance. Just check and make sure the compressor wheel hasn't touched the housing other wise it'll be noisy and won't work properly.
If the bearings are good you shouldn't be able to wiggle the compressor side to side more than 0.1mm.

Go see Eric at DSL on Austin Street in Onekawa.
He has a 300+ horse power safari running a turbo and well set up fuel pump.
He really knows his stuff

Its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: TURBO SAFARI
I've just put the same turbo in my Cruiser. I probably wouldn't recommend one for a diesel around 4 ltrs. Don't get me wrong it definitely has made a difference but I feel that it comes on boost to high in the rev range. It is boosting from 2000rpm - 3500+rpm which I feel is too many revs for my old 4ltr diesel. You may feel differently tho.
