Land cruiser pto sticky stuck and frustrating

Post by Weeds »

Hi guys I have a pto on the front of my 70 works really well when I can get the lever that ingages it or disengages it on thE left hand side of the winch to move I'm assuming that it gets full of muck where it slides across. The surface isn't damaged and I hose it out spray with crc after every outing but I have still just spent 45 minuets in the garage half a can of crc smacking it back and forward with a hammer and I still carnt move it by hand. What can I do to provent this many marine greese or something else or will this attract more crap?

Has any one moved a pto higher to gain a Better approach angle I know the shaft would be on a hell of an angle but would I work or would it let ya down when you needed it most ?

Thanks
Gareth

The key can get burred so it's not binding on the shaft, but where it slides over the keyway - you need to dismantle the end of the winch and file off any rough spots.

And you can mount the winch a little higher and closer and run the driveshaft alongside the radiator and above the chassis cross-member from memory. Driveshaft needs to be shortened too.

you need to pull the winch out and disassemble the dog clutch and clean up the shaft to get it sliding freely again its either got really rusty or packed tight with mud and grease they are nice and loose and slide easily once you free them up, if your cruisers a 70 series you have to body lift them 50mm to get the pto shaft over the top of the front cross member to lift the winch up, its really tight to do and you may have to pack the radiator mounts up slightly as well, the pto shaft angle is ugly and makes the coupling flop around and flog out quicker as well as usually gets pretty noisy flopping around as well

its probably the pin that the handle pivots on mine seized up knock the little lock pin (i replaced mine with a nut and bolt) out and remove handle if the pin dosent slide out knock it out and polish up and coat with neversieze and re assemble.
