I was getting a warning light/buzzer for water in the fuel alot over the last few months.
Has settled down now but I do drain it say 1/month. Getting about 30-50mls water each time.

Is that normal to drain that amount, what do guys get and how often do you check it ??.

Where are you filling up from? Farm tank or gas station?

Also depends on wether you fill up on a regular basis or have it half full or less for long periods then condensation can occur in the tank overnight.

never had the water warning light come on in five years of ownership of current vehicle, or six years of previous vehicle.

I have to question where are you getting your diesel as that is most likely the source of your problems.

Filing up at the station, used quite often, but don't get to fill it up as often as I would like, maybe only $20-$40 a time.

Before i dropped and broke my glass bowl when i was changing my filter, in mine i was getting next to no water in it.

Make sure the seal on your gas cap is good, i wouldnt think condensation would be to much of a summer problem.

You could get a fuel glass bowl so you can see when its getting bad and drain it, i know it doesnt solve your problem but makes it much easier to see you can get them from tractor part shops.

The conversation went like this:
"We've had our mechanic have a look at your vehicle and we can't be 100% sure that water contamination in the fuel is the cause of the problem but we can't exclude it either. However seeing as you've been such a good customer and we value your business we've decided on this occasion to make a goodwill payment that will cover the repair costs, your out of pocket expenses and make up for the inconvenience."
At this point the check goes on the table face up so the amount can be seen.
"Now of course we want to do the right thing here but we can't put ourselves in a position where we're looking after your vehicle forever and we'd hate for people to get the wrong idea about our product so if I can just get your signature on these. This is a liability waiver and this one's a confidentiality agreement. Sorry about the paperwork but the legal team at corporate are real sticklers for dotting the i's and crossing the t's , you know how it is. So we just need to get the paperwork done and I can issue the check and we can get this business sorted."
Had that conversation a few times.

Having said that; if that's the cause of your problem (given the regularity of it and assuming you always fill up at the same place) I'd be very surprised if you're the only one to experience it. If you know other people who always fill at the same site with the same product I'd ask if they ever have fuel contamination problems.
The cost of replacing aging underground tanks is often the nail in the coffin for smaller, older sites.

I'd drain the tank and flush it through like you were thinking of then if you continue having problems I'd be thinking about where you're getting your diesel from. That is assuming you're not doing submarine impressions.

Cheers guys, I did wonder if H2O was getting in on the some of the yellow submarine excursions .

The previous owner did regular river crossings over the Orongorongo to get access to the family hut, so could be a valid reason.

Make sure your fuel tank breather hose is up nice and high to stop water getting the tank that way.
