boost tap

Post by BigBertha »

sorry if this has been done before, tried to look but couldnt find anything what im after, anyway i have installed a boost tap to my 1kzte it was boosting to about 10 as usual, bit i kept winding the boost tap in and nothing changed, i wound it nearly tight and went over around 13 but let off. now i undid the tap a little more about 1 click and it went back to 10 pound, sorry for the story but is this a problem with the tap or the wastegate

Read your other thread that ya started . explains why you have no boost...you don't really need a boost tap on a diesel... just a heavier waste gate spring

1kz have a cut in the ecu at 12 or so psi so it will go into limpmode anyhow , With the 1kz all you can do is really intercool , fit a 3" , from there either chip it or fitted a modded mehanical pump ,

Sounds to me boost tap is not installed properly.
When the tap is shut the boost should be the factory setting which is determined by the waste gate spring.
When the tap is opened the boost should increase because it bleeds off the pressure going to the wastegate diaphragm. the more you open the higher the boost pressure.

Wrote this before trundles post but he got in before me.

Cheers

the tap is setup properly, think it could b just a cheap tap, but ive so far done a custom intercooler and removed muffler to help with flow, ive just noticed that the boost drops off around top end and been told that the tap will help that is that correct?
