I just bought one of the above in a 5 door 136K. It seems OK on the flat ticks along at 110 or 120 no worries although it takes a while to get there.
On hills its hopeless (got it in christchurch so didn't do a hill test) my mates R50 shape 96 2.7TD auto terrano and I don't think that's got the intercooler? would eat it, actually my shit box daihatsu tugger would eat it

It will only do 80kph over the kilmog and the hill between Waitati and Dunedin.
I will get it checked out by a diesel mechanic, will blocking off the EGR valve and fitting a catch can improve performance? What else should I be looking at.
Are these things heavier and therefore more gutless than an R50 shape 2.7 turbo auto terrano?

Gidday... A family member had the same issue in an R50 Terrano. I didn't know about it, until I took it for a drive - It was gutless as anything, and she had been driving it around for 8 months like that - Would stuggle to get to 100kms.
Pull the Air flow sensor, on the pipe that comes off the air box.. There is a very thin fragile wire... squirt some crc on it and give it a clean (VERY gently) and put it back in....
Took 5 mins, and what a DIFFERNCE. Was like driving a different truck.

Clean the airflow meter with proper cleaner only, dont use contact cleaner of brake clean or anything else.
If you can get the ecu codes checked to make sure there are no codes present for the electronic pump or you will be chasing your tail.
My R50 TD27eti will do 160 and pull 2 ton along at 100 no problem.

they weigh the same apparently 1850 kgs.
remove the in-feed banjo bolt to the injector pump and remove the gauze filter (if some one hasn't already).
it may be computer controlled but it's still mechanically a nissan TD engine.
Don't go too over board paying a mechanic to look at it, all he will do is say change the filters and oil more regularly.
The eti injector pump is pretty much a throw away item as in it is cheaper to just buy another pump then rebuild the original due to the needle valve and idle and timing advance being computer controlled.
Apart from that the only other majors that will effect performance is the AFM,crank angle sensor and the ecu temp sender.

We get them rebuilt, normally around 1500 including new electronic governor.

yeah ...new one ex japan is 1200.
or the seal kit is 58.29 nz dollars out of the UK
the rebuild kit (rollers etc)is 75 nz
and the governer from zexel is 58.41 nz
So if you took the pump off the engine your self and took it to a rebuilder its pretty hard to justify the balance of 1500.

Last time I priced one from nissan it was well over 2k.
By electronic governor I mean the whole electronic piece on the top of the pump and the phase sensor in the side of it.
Most of them need a new housing and input shaft aswell.
Where are you getting the price of 1200 from, could save some customers some money.

I rebuilt the FIL's pump using the covec and zexel parts off ebay in the UK as there is a massive market for spare parts for the R20/R50 td27eti.(terrano 2/mistral/pathfinder terrano).
When mine failed not long after I asked around on the uk nissan forums and managed to get a complete new pump for 1200 nz made under license in hongkong/taiwan/japan for Merlin diesel systems (it helps if you have family to bring it back with them from holiday.)
But due to there lack of tune ability(more fookin horsepower) I have put in a TD27T mechanical pump.
...so shamless plug i have a ETI pump for sale offers.lol

So I took it to a diesel mech. The pump body was flogged out and the electropnic govener was shagged so $1600 for replacement pump plus fitting. Goes a lot better but still not sensational
Thankfully it is still under warranty now the auto has shit itself see my new post!!
