hey guys im new to the whole 4x4 thing but have just bought my self a 1990 swb y60, the only problem is it has a death shake at 50k but goes away at 45k and 55k

Jump under the front of the truck and check that the panhard rod is on tight/check the bushes are still there...

Fairly common problem, also if you do take the panhard off check that the holes havnt elongated. If they have go buy some thick washers and weld em on the outsides of the bracket.

thanks is it common for these safaris to have slop in the driveshaft slip joint I jacked it up and put it into gear and the vibration still occurs

not common for the slop ,
Ballance the front wheels , make sure there is no play in the front wheel bearings , if thats all good remove one shim from each hub swivel bearing and re grease the bearings ,

My rear shaft had a lot of play in slip joint large wad of cash fixed that

haha wads of cash fix anything, I might have to do that and see if it fixes it

Death wobbles can be caused by anything from stuffed bushes, loose bearings, worn ball joints or wheel balance. Any little bit of slackness in the front suspension/steering results in death wobbles. Sometimes hard to find the cause.

Drive shaft spline wear is less common, probably cheaper to find a good second hand replacement than get the spline replaced.
