Tour De Whanga Safari May 17th - 18th 2014

Post by Whanga4x4 »

Hello all

The Whangamata 4x4 club are running a two-day event to raise funds for the local Whangamata Area School and Whangamata Pony Club. This is an event set up for the more adventurous safari and club truck people. Matariki forest based, using lots of tracks as stages on saturday followed by a fun park area (read: tight bush/mud/rutted track area with a few bits that will challenge even the best of you) to finish the day, and then a farm based driving and fun event day on the sunday morning. We are planning to have all events completed by lunch time/early afternoon, on Sunday to allow for travel home. This event is aimed at giving the regular experienced safari/tag-along people, (or those of you with club trucks and would like to take a family member/friend along), an exciting and fun trip.

If the weather holds this will be a muddy, fun weekend for all...

Entry Details:
Entry fee $150.00 - includes 1.5 days of 4x4 fun, camping area for tents and caravans at Area School (hot showers and clean toilets), lunch and breakfast for driver and co-driver. Extra lunch and breakfast packs available @ $25 per head. Limited to 50 vehicles.

Please visit www.whangamata4x4.org for details.

Hi. This is an any truck event. We had to postpone the Jan event so this event is open to everyone :D We have some fairy challenging bits for those that must and the farm run on Sunday will have a few twists and turns that some of you may not have seen before, including a slalom course in a bit of a bog, blind folded parking contest & a Co driver challenge to name a few. We have also organised for a group dinner at the local workingmans club on sat night. Free camping is available at the Area School grounds for all entrants. Breakfast on Sunday is looking mighty fine :) :) :) .

We have organised this event late in the season as we hope the conditions will just add to the fun :D

Hi is this only for the hardcore? Or will there be at least a grade 3 option?

No not at all. This event is aimed at the shiny truck, tag along people. We will have a bit of tuff stuff for those that like to get down and dirty and that willl give us all something to laugh at  All tracks will have alternative routes and people can make up their mind on the day. We are holding this event late in the season on the hope of getting you lot that like to get a bit muddy. No damage, as we expect you all to drive home, but we are hoping for a fun and challenging couple of days, not just another drive on forest roads or simple farm tracks.

Cheers Brendon.

Hello, $150 is per truck so numbers inside are up to you. BUT... we also include lunch and breakfast for the driver and co-pilot in the price. We can do extra food packs for $25.00 per head if needed. The lunch packs are generous and brekkie will will be warm and filling :)

For anyone thinking about an end of season trip... we had another look at the areas to be used on the sunday and I can assure you it will be bloody good fun, wet and a tad muddy. We also have several great drop in tracks that will get the heart racing, but all tracks have easy alternatives also.

The driver fun area is looking like being just damn good muddy/challenging fun. This is on a very easy rise with great photo opportunities for all and i can gaurantee a snatch or three for those that give it a go... But then again I have been doing it in my Mitsi Challenger so I understand if you lot in those Toyotas and Nissans chicken out :D :D :D

Thanks guys... What email address are you sending too? Nothing special needed other than a good dose of humour and camera. We are organising the local working mans club to allow us to go there for dinner on sat night so might be a late ish start Sunday:-) but we'll leave that up to you lot :D the idea for this weekend is to bring keen, fun, adventurous 4x4 owners together for an event that will allow for a bit more of a challenge than the standard safari run (only if you want too) and with some fun areas that will allow you to sharpen your 4x4 driving skills. We are not covering heaps of miles but more looking at fun, challenging stuff that we can drive and don't mind the odd stuck bit :D :D . We do expect you all to drive home at the end, but we have a couple of areas for the guys and girls that really really give it heaps... We are hoping this might become a traditional end of season event and want heaps of feedback to allow for developing this year on year. It is our first 2 day event so be nice you lot :D

A great weekend. Video up on youtube, just search Tour De Whanga or snafu4wd

Brendon's Mitsi Challenger was traded in for the FJ Toyota for the day, probably a good thing too seeing how the Mitsi Ute was on the end of a rope so often:-)

Thanks Brendon, great weekend.

Thank you very much for the feed back and the bloody great video... Not a bad weekend overall. Lots to review and learn from...saturday was a bit too stop start but we were trying something new with a tougher than normal event. Also lots of lessons for the team at Whanga 4x4. These event require a huge ammount of team work and I am very glad that come sunday we had all learnt a little (or a lot) and I can honestly say the Sunday was some of the best fun I have had for a long time in the 4x4.

Thanks again to Toyota for the use of the FJ, not totally convinced the Challenger would have struggled, but I guess we will never know ahh.

Now, next year we just need two days worth of Sunday..........hmmmm
