in the true interest of hotrodding in a 4wd sense I'm starting to mod my little rover,
given that true hotrodders use bits of any vehicle to achieve the desired effect I will use the same principle.
I really want to build a tough little truck with a low centre of gravity , plenty of articulation a little power and with a bit of personality.
tyres are 35x10.5 16 simex centipedes
diffs are mq safari
engine is a turbo ld28
primary gearbox will be mq safari from a divorced case truck
secondary box will be mq also with married case
chassis will be a bobbed 109 wheelbase s2a with an 88" tub spaced back from the cab.
undecided whether to mount the cab back on the tub or not with an extended roof to create an extra cab length with a big parcel tray filling the void.
currently have mu springs in the rear but looking into utilising bighorn springs in the front with a relocated shackle mount or vice versa,
radiator between the cab and tub along with centre mount winch.
ideally I will get it set up with 1/3 up 2/3 down travel whick may require lowering the bumpstops a tad and sourcing long travel shocks.
photos to come diffs all but rolled under,
gearboxs off to the steelsurgeon for coupling soon

Re: jases redneck rover

started mock up
wondering about converting the front end to front shackle rather than rear shackle as per standard.

front swinging shackle would work against the force of the wheels being pushed back instead of going with it with a rear swinging shackle, it would decrease the front approach angle and would probably also require caster correction to get the steering geometry back where it should be

But Toyota, Nissan and Suzuki all do them with the shackles at the front..........

just gives the owner something to modify and fiddle with..

Re: jases redneck rover
did definitely wonder about decreased approach angle but the springs are relatively short that I am using with the locating pin forward of centre so no extra than std will hang forward or below the chassis.
also removing the rovers tendancy of binding ujs due to its up and back motion from the rear shackles will bring peace of mind.
