Hi team, am getting an ls1 put into my landcruiser.
1. What are your thoughts on a mafless tune?(pros cons)
2. Will getting a snorkel later on down the track make a difference between mafless or not?

Cheers.

there's ten thousand million threads about maf vs mafless on the hotrod forums mate, going mafless removes the sensor and screen out of the intake for less restricted intake airflow and uses the manifold pressure to calculate the fuel maps. Have a read through some of the forums everyone claims to have improved KW, torque and throttle response. Whichever way you it'll make your old cruiser get up and go :D

The biggest reason for going MAFless is reliability. Any water in the intake and the MAF (assuming it's a filament type) will die and then you're pretty well screwed. Even with a snorkel getting a some water in the intake isn't that hard and won't really damage anything but the MAF.

Mafless you will need to get a retune to get the benefit of any bolt on mods, heads, cam, exhaust etc.

If you get your setup just how you want it straight away, no problem.

If you intend to develop it slowly over time, then a MAF system will automatically compensate for the mods you make.

Unless you build a crap snorkel, It won't affect your MAFless tune to the point of requiring a re-tune.

For a LS1 I reckon you would want continuous 4" pipe to make sure you don't restrict it at high RPM

Tomsoffroad has been building some cool air box systems. Here's one connected to a lexus
