drowned terrano, now clutch slipping.

Hey guys.

Had a rough run down at the ashley the other weekend with a mate.

Overestimated the ability of my stock terrano and got bogged in the water while I was pretty deep, I forgot there was a hole in the top of my airbox where a vacuum line once was, which rendered my snorkel completely useless once I was stopped in the water.

To make a long story short, engine stalled in the water and I got water in every fluid that is in the vehicle. Removed glow plugs and cranked it over, masssive amounts of water came out, started
it, and it is running great. Luckily.
I've changed both diffs, gearbox, transfer, powersteering and engine oil.

But now when it is in gear, when it gets to about 2000RPM the clutch slips and it revs high until I let of the gas and slowly ease on, but I can't go over say, 60kph because it just slips.

Could this have something to do with water in the clutch fluid?
Cheers.

Heres a photo cause I know you guys like photos, it was taken before the engine stalled which explains why I am still sorta smiling hahaha.

Have you drained the water from the bellhousing? If its never been apart its probably still got the wee rubber bung at very bottom of front of bellhousing

You also might have sand / silt in there too.
May need to shove a hose in there and flood it with clean water then depress the clutch a few times. Flush out the crud

pretty good guess the engine didn't stall it hydrauliced, watch how much you spend on the truck fixing it up coz they invariably end up going boom not long after you drain all the water out of the engine even if you were lucky enough to get it started again... cool pic :D

Undo the bolts at the bottom of the bell housing that hold the tin cover on the bottom and bend it out a little then poke a garden hose in the clutch fork hole and run the engine for couple of minutes with the hose running pumping the clutch to get the crud out.

Awesome pic!

I have had water that high but luckily my snorkel is sealed well and I have breathers into the intake.

Any electrical issues? Central locking and other bits all good?

I had to take a few bits out and dry them and spray with CRC contact cleaner.

Good luck.

Matt.
