Hi everyone, new to the forum and have read through all the Terrano R50 posts - great stuff there.

I live in ChCh and have just bought a 1998 R50 QD32 out of Wellington which my 7 year old son has dubbed "The Green Machine" (for obvious reasons). Good ones are hard to get in ChCh and overpriced (relatively speaking). It looks mint and is ultra tidy inside. Is a GM3R and has all the bells and whistles includes the "lovely" rear wing!

Only problem is a knocking noise in the left rear, particularly evident when you go over a bump when turning. Funny but no noise going over a bump straight ahead, although going over a large bump at a bit of speed can "bottom" out the suspension (getting worn?)

Also a creaking noise (spring?) left front when turning at slow speed.

Any help would be appreciated.

set aside a couple of hundred dollars for the entire rear end replacement of bushes etc FIL's seems to wear out about every two years or so but he does a fair few kms

Well it turns out that the main problem was over inflating the air shocks so they had too little travel in them. I had them at 40 psi when they should have been 10 psi! (without a load)

But the mechanic reckons air shocks are the worst thing ever invented!

The job of a shock absorber is to control the movement of the spring, not support the weight of the vehicle. Also the shock mounts are not designed to take the weight.
I would not use them, if you want adjustable ride height get a set of airbags that fit inside your springs.
