Buying a 80 series Cruiser, what weakness to lookout for

Post by oldblue »

A friend of mine has brought a 22Foot Jayco Van and needs to upgrade from a 1993 80series cruiser to a later 80series Cruiser, not a 100 series. Are there anything or weakness that we need to look out for?

I'm told the 12 valve ones suffer the bearing issue much more than the 24 valve ones.
There's plenty of 'cruiser owners here, so i'm sure they will jump in,but they might not admit to many weaknesses! :)

Gidday,

As mentioned, if its a 12 valve (1 HD-T) then big end bearings, and prone to cracking the chasis around the steering box - especially when running oversized tyres. Other things to be mindful of would be slop in the drivetrain caused by worn uni joints, leaking inner hub seals (Usually the passenger side)
