Hi,
I want to build a new short wheel base truck. I have heard a bit about Daihatsu Rocky's and I want to put something like a V6 or 2.8dt with hilux/land cruiser running gear.
Any measurements/problems/photos of conversions or other suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
Re: Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
The daihatsu ruuger came out with the 2.8dt, but still gutless. Did the holden v6 conversion which was the cheapest to do plus a heap of them early commys going cheap.
Re: Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
Sounds good and i would prefer the v6. I would love to know more details if you have them? Like what gearbox to you use? What trans box and running gear if not standard?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
early1990's v6 commy motor plus the commy automatic gearbox, and then a isuzu transfer case off the auto gearbox, this will slide onto the back of the commy gearbox and make it 4wd, there is some shaft exposed so will have to make an adapter to fill in the gap. Pretty easy to make if your handy with a welder and can cut some plate.
Will need to fabricate new engine mounts etc...
flick me your email if you want some photos of a backyard "bush truck" style.
cheers

Are all the rockys the same??? is the 1.6 petrol rocky going to fit the V6? or is the 2.8d Rugger a bit different up front. Hope you dont mind me jumping in on your post

Re: Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
the 1.6 dosent have as strong running gear eg axels. the daihatsus were never made for the holden v6 lol so will need to redo all engine / gear box mounts and drive shafts,
The motor should be able to fit if its just a bush truck (not certed) - iv done the conversion on the rugger and iv got 2 mates that have also done it in a little suzuki farmworker and a surf but all in backyard bush truck styles.
cheers

Re: Daihatsu Rocky V6/2.8dt??
The standard 2.8TD motor is pretty much bulletproof and they go quite well with a bit of extra boost and fuel. However there is a conversion kit made by Dellows (I think) that allows a commonwhore V6 to bolt up to the standard 5-speed. Standard diffs are supposed to be reasonably strong, I'm going to be trying 36" Swampers on mine, but the gearboxes have a common issue with the nut on the output shaft coming loose and parts are a bit rare for these.
