I would just like to start by saying f^*k'n useless piece of s*%t auto's

Glad i got that out of my system.

The story goes like this. Bought 60 series up north auckland. Bought on trade me sight unseen. Mint body was all lies. Just spent a $1000 getting rust taken out and putting steel back in. Anyway the auto wasn't a runner. It would move off but not change up through the gears.

Unadjusted kick down to see if it had been played with. No luck. Did filter change and flush. Still not much better. If you got some big revs on and then took your foot clean of the throttle then reapply it, it would sometimes change up to 3rd.

Bit the bullet and bought another second hand trans. Had a good mate fit it for me as I wasn't keen on dropping a big cruiser auto on my chest. Anyway, I took the nice and shiney painted cruiser out for a WOF today. All good. Just started up again this evening and it stopped changing up again. As you can imagine this made me kinda sad. I'm not gonna slit my wrists or anything. Just a bit pissed that i could stumble accross this problem twice in two auto's.

I was originally told that it was a sticky valve in the back of the auto that can cause this.

If anyone has any other ideas that don't involve pulling the auto out again i would be keen to hear.

Cheers guys.

George of the Jungle and another 60 series that will remain nameless!!!!!

Have a look at the troubleshooting guide for the A340/A43 that might help... Service manual is here:

Sounds like Solenoid issues to me, Toyota Autos are prone to them.
