Are you planning on running the rope through to the front? Or just want the ability to pull backwards?

Get one of the cradles that fit into a tow hitch receiver, Then you can take it off and on. That way it gets to stay dry and warm inside the truck until you need it.

That's why I was asking, won't work if you want to winch forwards but good to winch backwards.

My plan is to use a removable winch with mount points front and rear.

permanent mount within vehicle
To run rope fwd, with std snatchblock setup for rear pulls when needed

Could you fit it above and forward of the rear diff. Run the rope rearward through a snatch block before going forward. This would give you enough distance between the winch and first pulley to get good rope layering on the drum.
Put a pin through the snatch block and pull it out the back for winching backwards.

Do you want to winch forward? or are you after a recovery winch to drag yourself out, like this set up? Jono's not long ago finished it.

It was made by Jono at JRC (Jono's Race Craft)

yes, aim is for it to be setup for fwd winching, but of course with snatch block setup for rear winching such as recovery.

Things to consider with rear mounted winch is power drop as ur further away from ur batteries also more wear on ur rope, also do u plan on running through a tube or loops whats ur reason for wanting a rear mounted winch? As i have one in my comp truck but its pto powered and the fuel tank and back of cab are removed my one runs through a tube of stainless to try and reduce friction and wear apparently loops are better also u need a min of around 800mm from the last loop or end of pipe to the drum to let the rope layer on the drum properly. If mounting behind the diff u want to make sure if the rope goes slack it can't end up wrapped around ur drive shaft.
