fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
Hi all I am having difficulties lining these up any hints or tricks ?
Re: fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
what are you trying to do shove the gearbox back in after a new clutch install or something?
Re: fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
Pretty much got a new 2f +gearbox to replace what was in it they came separately new engine now in
Re: fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
Bellhousing bolts straight onto the gearbox, 4x M12 bolts and 1 or 2 dowels to align it
its not clear if your just trying to bolt the bellhousing onto the gearbox or install the gearbox onto the back of the engine in the truck or do something else?

as above 4x M12 bolts, you need to make sure the clutch plate is centred or you'll never get the gearbox in, borrow an old input shaft or find a clutch alignment tool, eyeometer or anything else never works its got to be aligned spot on. Make sure you've got the trans cover off the floor of the cruiser so you can work from the top as well as underneath, if you've got a rollcage suspend the gearbox off it with a chain block or use an engine crane with the boom poking through the door, you'll feel the inputshaft engage in 2 stages, it'll go through the spline in the clutch plate first an then you'll have to get the end of the inputshaft into the pilot bearing and it'll all join up and you finish it off with the 4 bolts, don't try and pull it up on the bolts if it hasn't all clicked into place, put a smear of grease on the input shaft to help it slide through but not too much or it'll end up on your clutch plate and cause other problems. Stick a bit of moly grease on the clutch fork pivot and inside the release bearing carrier so it isn't riding dry on the gearbox snout and make sure you remove the gear lever before you try all the above or it gets real difficult

Re: fj40 gearbox to bellhousing
is it likely the clutch plate will have moved and be out of aline
if all that has happend is the gear box being removed and now being put back on

Would of been heaps easier to bolt the gearbox up to the engine out of the truck and put the whole lot in in one go. That's why the front panels are removable.
