Theres a couple of these trucks at pickapart at the moment, pull the draglink for $20 or something ridiculous.

Nothing a bit of angle cant fix...(my pajero...I've also strengthened the steering idler which used to get bent every time too)

if you strengthen your tierod with a bit of angle or something other than the wof guys getting a bit funny about shit welded to your streering components just bare in mind your shifting the weak or fail point to somewhere else so it could be a balljoint or other part of the steering linkage that bends or fails next time causing you bigger or more serious problems (seen it happen with a tube sleeved over the tierod and the balljoint ended up shearing off ), sometimes its safer to keep dealing with a bit of a bend in the tie rod and you learn how to do bush repairs and straighten it with a strop or winch pretty easily

Good point Derk about the WOF guys...hasnt been a problem for me so far but I know things are getting tighter

For my Pajero bracing the arms has really helped, previously they would always get bent but now I can go on a trip and still drive home with no probs. But hey every truck and every driving style is different. I also have lockers in mine so tend to take a careful approach to stuff instead of full noise . Definitely a good idea to carry critical spares all the time and absolutely agree about learning bush repairs...has saved me on many an occasion!

Not sure I follow your logic w this one derk... the first thing the Chevy and Ford IFS guys do is sleeve their tierods and brace their pitman/idler arms.

Breaking a suspension balljoint stud is extremely rare and no more likely than breaking a leaf spring. That should only happen through extremely poor maintenance or massive overloading (tyre size). I dont see how sleeving tierods is going to lead to a balljoint failure.

My question is how the hell do you bend a draglink made out of 1.25" solid bar, without bending a tierod first? Frontal impact?

didnt bend anything else just that was lucky i could get it home
