Newbie - Challenger Mad (Dunedin)

Post by COOCX »

Hi guys, new to the whole forum thing (hopefully doing it correctly)

Based in Dunedin, Keen to get involved in any groups etc. Ive got a 1996 Mitsy Challenger, bought from Auckland (never seen a dirt track in its life - fantastic condition for its age)

Had it for two years now and just starting to do a few modifications.
- Recently Lifted it, new rear springs and wound up torsion bars.
- Snorkel
- New MCC (ARB Style) Bull bar on its way

If anyones got some advice on the following to help me out would be great:
- Currently Running DynaPro AT's, and Ive aquired another set of Rims (16's) off an 04 Chall. Keen to get some Mud Terrains on these - deciding between the Kumho Venture and the KL71's. Any advice/thoughts/preferences from people?
The Price difference is around 200 more for the KL71's although they do have a much wider footprint and the ventures only come in 285/75..

The KL71 will last a lot longer as long as you keep your tyre pressures correct

Sorry Mate, just checking old posts and noticed the reply, I sourced it through Otago Tyres here in Dunedin it looks good but was a real beatch to install to be honest, Im sure its just a cheapo from China, if I were to get another one id look up E-Bay AU and get a proper Safari Snorkel for an MK Triton they seem to fit much better and require next to no modifications, ive still got some tidying to go to ensure its fully water tight!

After doing some research, Im leaning towards some Cooper STT's to be honest. Just need to free up some cash, the new bar/winch/lift and body lift has sucked up a considerable amount!!

once you manage to swallow the price those cooper stt's they will give you good value for money you get good milage out of them and have pretty good road manners for an off road tyre :D as far as offroad ability goes its the same as all tyres its all subjective to what sort of terrain, conditions, expectations etc but should be sweet for anywhere you want to stick your challenger :D

Cheers Guys,

Coxsy, a few questions around lockers. Im considering just putting in an auto Lokka in the front as the price is considerably less! Are these any good? Would you recommend them? What sort of starting price would I be looking at for Air Lockers?

a auto in the front is not nice, you have to drive to keep the locker out on corners ,in the back not so much of a problem.
air lockers are not cheap about $2 k each ,
