WTB - Off road rims for TJ

Hey all, I'm after a set of rims (4 plus 1 spare) for my '03 Jeep Wrangler. Nothing fancy, just need something so I don't damage my Cragers off road and also so I can have a set for mud and a set for road. Having tyres would be good but not a necessity.

Tyres, I've had good experience with Herb Morgan Tyres in Auckland. It might be far for you. But they have a very sharp pencil.

You can actually probably get as a package from Warren too. But they'll still have to be fitted by a tyre shop.

I'm not 100% sure what size rim I need or what size tyre I need to put on. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Offset is the position of the hub mounting surface in relation to the center on the rim. Important to stop tyres rubbing on control arms, chassis, guards etc. Negative offset will move the rim to the outside of the guard, positive will move it in.

Not sure what offset would work best sorry, google didn't help me much. Guessing you don't want to get into lift kits and regearing diffs just yet so I would suggest a set of 235/75R15 on a set of standard steel rims (look like these ones)http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/wheels-tyres/tyres/auction-745856311.htm They should fit without rubbing, pass wof without needing certification and won't rob too much power or fuel economy, not that you buy a 4L straight 6 because you're worried about fuel economy!

I went with the 15 * 8 from Warren for my TJ.
solely because i went with 33 * 10.5 Silverstones...

Depending on what tire you plan on, will dictate the required rims...

if you go for a 33 * 12.5 tire, you will need a 15 * 10 rim, as (correct me if im wrong) you need a minimum 8.5" rim for a 12.5" tire.... for cert....
if your going with 31's, a 15 * 8 will work, but leave no room for upgrades

Even with the 10*8-3.75" rim and a narrow 10.5" tire, my tires still stuck out about 2", which meant new guards to cover them.

These are what I'm running. I didn't want steelies. Back space is 4" which keeps it a bit more tucked in. If yours is Sahara then the fenders should be slightly wider than Sport.

Ok, so... I just want a set to put on to go to wherever I'm driving, have fun off road and drive home again. My budget won't allow for any massive mods in the near future so I'm not too worried about that side of things. I think I just need a standard set of rims with some good mud grips to give me traction wherever I decide to go

Budget is always a problem. I don't run a second set, hence a bit of coin for 8" wide rims.

You can get these and put decent tyres on on them. $80 for a set.

It might be worth asking the seller if they would consider removing the tyres first as that will make them a lot cheaper to send, guessing you will be buying new ones anyway.

Real off topic and random question, what fuel would you guys recommend using? I've got 95 in her at the moment but wondering what would be most efficient? Thanks in advance

91 is fine, these are real old tech motors and don't need flash fuel.

Awesome, that should save me a bit at the pump! I filled it from a quarter tank the other day and it still took 55 litres, something like $130 after 4c off

steves tyre and alignment in cambridge and Tony at speedy lube n tyre in hamilton have always been good to deal with for rims n tyres.

I was thinking of going to see Steve but he was a bit of a dick to me last time I was in there... A good friend of mine has also recommended speedy so I might head over there on my days off

Thanks TJ. I tend to stick with caltex, it seems to run the best in all the vehicles I've owned. But which fuel is the best is a whole other topic that can start a massive debate... lol

It's ethanol that's the problem. Eats rubber bits in the old fuel system. Nasty stuff.

I don't differentiate between others as they all come from Marsden Point. Not much difference between them other than a few additives.
