Exo cage compliant on a Full body GQ?

Post by Craydiver »

88 SWb GQ with WOF.
Looking to put a full cage on it. Have sliders and side bar work already - 50mm pipe.
Can you make an Exo that complies to the Roll cage rules for winch challenges without putting a diagonal brace thru the body? A few searches indicates yes, but it not clear to me. I don't want to spend the $ to find its not complying for the sake of a few bars in the right place. Is there someone in Ak that could confirm a design for a full body GQ?

I think you can but you make the diagonal braces removable so you have them competing and take them out when not.. Sure you can.

My understanding is that yes, you would need a diagonal brace through the body, but it could be removable.

Probably easiest would be build an internal cage and put a pillar/roof bars on the outside?

Or cut the cab and do this, http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... an#p399566

I have been looking at the all the various rules to do the same as you...
NOTE: you can't mix and match the rules... you need to do it as per one set of them.....for comp work....
But its not really possible with a full body and just an exo...
Without having any cut thru the body or mount thru the body.
You still need a basic 4 point cage concept with diagonal brace and back stays. (6 point ?)
Well thats my take on it...
I have looked at NZFWDA, ORANZ etc etc and find the ORANZ rules easier to follow.

In the end at this point the cage work for me is not for competition but to protect me and the family on my off road adventures...
However I am using as many of the features and rules to build it.
And if I want to I can add a few bits here and there to make it compliant if I decide to evolve it for competitions.
