Those Yukon/sparten type lockers, how do they work? Do they lock under just load or only when traction is lost? I'm interested but just unsure how they would react on the road.

to save you the vid download.....
they are actually an auto-unlocker.
they are normally locked when driving but when coasting it allows one side to unlock and travel at different speed. so to go around a corner you have to coast for it to unlock. when you put power on again it forces it to lock.
if you power on to early before the wheels have matched their speeds, it locks abruptly and the wheels fight it out. one has to loose traction for a sec.
obviously this can make for an uncomfortable ride.
open road its not a big issue tho uphill corners can be a little tricky.
around town it can be very clunky at times.
gravel roads......excellent.
if your a lightish 4x4er have a look at torsen lsd. ask 4wdstuff
