Hi all,
I am looking at this Surf on Trademe
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... &district=
A quote from the seller:
"The head cracked so I replaced it with an AMC head."
"The engine cooked itslef on the way to Tauranga so I bought a new block and replaced the turbo when the head was replaced as it was on its way out apparently."
My question is, would you guys stay well clear because of these reasons? Or is it a 'good thing' that these have been replaced?
Are the AMC heads as good/worse/the same as genuine Toyota heads?
I have heard contradicting theories on buying Surfs: some say to look for one that has already had its head replaced as it will need doing eventually. Others say they'd rather have a stock one. Your thoughts?
Any help would be appreciated!!
Cheers

I am not sure what the quality of those heads is like, when I was looking I think they were ok? I would be more concerned with whether it was a complete replacement (ie aftermarket cams and valves etc) or a bare head set up with his original valve train. I hear the aftermarket valve gear is not worth the gamble.
