Driver - Navigator communications?

What are you winch comp drivers using to talk to your navigators?

I dont want to have to yell anymore... and I cant hear anything sitting in the truck staring up at the trees waiting for the winch rope to be hooked up

Ive looked at a couple of options that friends in the states are using for rockcrawling comps but because the spotter doesnt have to get into the vehicle they all seem to use units that clip to their belts.

What works? what doesnt give any trouble in the bush? what isnt a pain in the ass for the navi jumping in and out all day long?

Thanks ( at some stage I will stop starting threads for odd questions that pop into my head when Im watching you tube  )

you can have as many flash radio's and communication devices but what really makes the difference is finding a navi that's on the same wave length and thinks the same way you do so you don't have to keep screaming your guts out that the tree they have hooked the winch onto is on too much or an angle and the rope is going to load up and jam up on the side of the drum or the tree they have hooked you onto isn't far enough away and your going to slide all the way back down the bottom again when you try to disconnect and reset the winch half way up the hill, or the angle is ugly and its going to tip the truck over or they leave half your gear behind lying around in the bush etc etc :D get the right person and you don't even need to talk to them :D

I use those exact same head sets as above and have been for the past 3 years and haven't had any problems with them. Great clear sound and they easily last a day of competing before needing to be charged again. Also easy as to set up. Just hold down the main button for around 7 seconds until they flash red and blue on both sets, then release and then press down on the same button on one of the head sets then they should connect.

Yip, Bluetooth headsets in helmet are great! I use for trials and they last all day, can talk to navi when there out of truck guiding recovery or when walking course before driving it.
Biggest thing we found was to 'pair' them together away from the pits so other devices didn't interfere with them, if there's lots of them arround they get confused!!

Ahhh its all good. Was funny thou. Funny as i had not put it in pair mode. I just got my driver to hit the interphone button again and it moved to me. They can be paired with upto 3 units and you can call up each one in turn. Some can do 4.

They don't like being submerged, flipped our trials truck into a creek couple years ago, my Bluetooth unit was under water for 30secs, worked for the rest of the day then never again. Got mine off trademe, $100 each unit.
