need help with electrics - 3Y Surf

Hi, I have some trouble with my 84 surf (YN60): when I try to wind the tailgate window up or down with the key or with the centre console switch it stops somewhere half way or any where else. then wont go either way, neither up nor down. After a while it works again and I can wind it down. There is a clicking sound coming from a relais lh behind the passenger seat which is inaccessible behind the interior lining.
I can't figure out what tells the relais to break the connection. Because: I also have another manual switch on the inside to wind the window up and down (installed after a thread here in about 2006). That switch works all the time, even when the relais has interupted the normal operation for the key or console switch.

Just one more time:
Can anyone explain this to me: The additional switch is wired straight into the original harness, which has its power interrupted by the relais - yet "my" switch still works??? Seems totally illogical. :?
How do I sort this out?

Any thoughts welcome!

Does anyone know what that relay/switch does that sits inaccessibly behind the panel by the bottom end of the passenger seat belt (B-coloumn) or what activates it?
