Starter Motor Rebuild

Post by imsohi »

Hey all

Im in the process of rebuilding my starter on the lexus and wondering if anyone has a good source of exploded diagrams denso also what things are worth replaceing while i'm there?

its a Denso 128000-7912

at this stage i have on the list:

1. Bearings 2 on armature and 1 on starter drive
2. Starter Drive (clutch) mines buggered
3. Contacts x2

Then there is the ???

Plunger. if i replace the contacts i geuss its not worth it unless you do the plunger aswel as that is the other contact point or does it not matter that much or is it vice verca

and Brushes mine look mint still with plenty of life left is it common to reuse these rather than replace?

is there anything i have missed??

Thanks Leigh

I did mine and replaced all the bearings.. took them out and matched to what was in there.. Was cheap as chips,
Plunger from memory is std Toyota one.. Then all that is needed to replace is the contacts..Also I greased up the gearbox.. not too much though as it'll just make it hard to turn.
I then ran silicon around the areas where the external seals are..They are quite brittle and do break. I also removed the breather ( rubber bung) and used an air line fitting, plugged in some hose and it is now outside the motor as a whole. Just to help with moisture. Got a picture around here somewhere.. Ill see if I can dig it out..

If the brushes look ok leave them. Also there are 2 bearings on the clutch but if you are replacing it some new clutches come with bearings on them.
