Shattered Front Diff

Hi all
Managed to blow my front diff on my jtop, well I think it is
Had it attacking a near vertical bank with big sheep ruts and now I have no front drive. If I place selector into 4WD the drive shaft from the center diff locks (will not rotate)
Does anyone have any words of wisdom
Anyone got one for sale
Do you think I just need internals?
Can it be done in place?
Can some kind soul tell me the part number?
Is it the same as a standard pajero?
Questions, questions
Thanks
Cheers Mike

There are different sizes, ratios and cvs for the different models and engines.
The 3.0 V6 manual, 2.8 and 3.5 all have the 8" c/w whereas the 2.5 and the 3.0 auto have the 7.5"
All the gen 2s have a high pinion front diff.
The 8" is considered unbreakable upto 33" tyres. You can't get a high pinion 8" 5.29.
Try the mitsi bible on Outer Limits 4x4 for more info

Thanks JTop
Mine is a V6 3.0 1993 Manual JTop
So that means 8" c/w ?
Gen 2 ?
Yep using 33's
Do you concur about the diff broken?
Any suggestions for where to get pre-loved parts?
Do you know if the diff head can be stripped in place?
Cheers Mike

transfer case front end slip yolk(engages the front drive) have blown one myself. was caused by a front diff that was absolutely locked by carrier pin wedged in the crown to pinion gears
pop your front driveshaft off and try to turn your front diff with the hubs engaged to check that all is ok in there
take the front housing off the transfer case where you will find the slip yolk which will probably be in 2 pieces(at a guess)
maybe

Hi Mike, bad luck
Open the bonnnet and look on the plate on the firewall on the right hand side and it'll tell you the diff ratio and from there we can work out the size. Should say trans code 4875....?
From what you have said it'll be a 4.875 ratio with 8 inch crown wheel adn pinion (I think)
And you have a PM.

I thought I had done both front and rear diffs in my pajero after last weekends waimak adventure but have scince found out that the transfer case is F#*ked due to the pinion bearings sezing both front and back

Its probably easier. but not easy, to change out the whole front diff assy.
I have dumped 2 or 3 of them as they have no resale.
Wacko may have 1

Hi all
Thanks for the reply's and information supplied
In the end U were all correct
Front Diff survived, but 2*CV's did not
That will teach me to have full power and the nose in the air over a meter (so I have been informed with photographic evidence

) Twas not the hill climb that killed it but the ditch previous that also shattered a Vitara Diff (Nothing Left)
Darn strong diffs eh
