Rust paint for inside of chassis

Post by De-Ranged »

Got a Landy sitting in the shop thats getting a bit of resto work, now due to the rust on the rear leaf springs and some previous patch work on the rear chassis.... I suspect this old girl has been used to launch a boat

I can sort the outside of the chassis with POR15 but the inside concerns me... to the point if I'm going to do the rest of the work including mods to the chassis do I recomend galvanizing or is there a product that I can spray in that will beat the salt in there

to get it galved it has to be acid dipped for a period of time to get the rust removed, which galvinisers are not to keen on, consumes time, there are outfits around that do dip stripping of rust, perhaps get it de rusted, rebuild it and then go galv

Use a wax sprayer gun and CRC rust converter. Its fluid enough to go thro the gun and two coats us what the bottle says

I found a wax gun with a 10mm nylon airline works well,
run a tip on the end of the airline then feed it down the rail,
I used a polystyrene ball threaded over the airline to hold the spray tip relatively central as I dragged it through the rail
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

Guess it depends on how much the owner wants to spend, Ive had a few things done by Kiwipolishers in Rotovegas, top notch work, no better system for rust removal. A chassis will probably be about $400, but you get it back in factory new condition...
They did a supra block for me that had rust clogged water galleries, $150 later it looked brand new.

Thanks for that Jafa didn't know about them
Don't know how keen he will be on cost of freighting to and from Roto and then paying galv
Didn't know about the time thing in the acid.... I thought the heated acid was pretty quick at pealing everything other than powder coating and silicon
I know the local Galv plant does chassis stuff, but that may have been through mates... will give them a ring Mon to find out if

The old standby was blast the rails out and blackguard, but his is going to be a road toy that he plans to keep for some time, thats why I thought to Galv it
