Petrol 4x4 for part time use?

Is owning a petrol 4x4 for occasional use the right way to go? It would be for weekend family fishing trips etc. not daily commuting. I am located in Helensville so beach isn't that far. What are my best options for a 7 seater truck? I have seen the Pajero, Patrol, Bighorn and Mazda Marvie. Thanks in advance.
