my truck got broken into last week out side the newtown council depot. luckily the little C#@t didn't steal it but took alot of stuff that was sitting in it. Even took my boots! got into some other cars too.
Did with a screw driver and ripped the whole lock barrel out. have any of you fellas had any experience with locks like these or similar pros, cons and are they worth it?.

I put these on my old GQ a few years ago when it got broken into. In winter I found the locks could freeze and take a bit more pressure to work. Was worried about mud possibly blocking them, but they didn't get to the point where they couldn't be used, just got a bit gritty

Install a decent alarm

In saying that......thieves are dumb.
I forgot to lock my car one night, knew i hadn't locked it, nothing of value in it and was blocked in by another car.

Woke up in the morning to a broken quarter window, stereo gone, they left the faceplate under the seat.


in my experience no amount of what have you done..... or how did you stop...... questions will solve the issue, if a thief wants to get in your vehicle or take it there's not much that will stop them.

The difference is how easy you make it for them.
If it looks like its going to be difficult they will move on,
if it will create too much noise, they will move on.

nothing says "don't touch" better then a blinking LED on the dash board...even better if you make it an odd color with a random pattern to make it appear different from all the usual alarms as it will appear as an unfamiliar security system and they will doubt themselves on how to disarm it so will be less inclined to break into it.

Yes a alarm has been on my mind for awhile now but i will most defiantly get one now

I only went for these because I had to change the door lock. Saw it as a way to prevent the locks being damaged by a half arsed attempt to get in with a screw driver, by those who didn't want to risk being heard smashing windows in our quiet street. Not much to the keys, but seemed to do the job well enough

Seen a guy open one of those fancy round locks with half a bic pen once

have heard of the storys of been able to get in to solex locks with a bic pen but never seen it. they are classed as a dead lock so wouldn't have thought u could get that much leverage on a bit of plastic.
on that note liquid nails the new lock barrel in. ive dune this a few times it dose not matter how much the try spin the lock it will not turn this alone has stopped a few of my old evos been stolen.

you can put whatever locks you want in the doors but they'll still pop them straight out of the door skin .... or if they cant be arsed mucking about with the locks they'll pop a window and be inside in about 2 seconds you can only keep honest people out of your vehicle

Or keep insurance company happy that you were taking reasonable care to make it secure enough to not have a claim denied......

He doesn't have a working relationship with anyone in Auckland. Nobody he is able to recommend in Auckland for Cobra alarms. Seems very very odd. But then I guess he is limiting his own business by ignoring a big market.

If you contact him he is usually happy to provide advice or recommend an installer, he does travel out of the region for installs but usually its when he has a few to do, he does get quite busy at times.

My comments were after talking to him. Cobra has no installers in Auckland. Nearest one is in Hamilton.

They don't do Cobra alarms. My problem with the new Jeep is that the alarm has to be CANBUS compatible for the year or all hell breaks loose potentially. Auto Watch don't list a compatible alarm. Old school tapping and hacking wires don't work on these new fangled vehicles now.

It may end up being me taking a day off work and driving down to Hamilton. I like the wireless, waterproof and battery backup siren on Cobra. Also, it operates off the original key for the car (no extra remotes to carry).

This is the one I was looking at. Minimal wiring and fuss. Integrates with onboard immobilizer and sensors.

Jeep JK changed the engine in 2012 and the interior in 2011, both of which means things that were ok for upto 2010 don't necessarily work on 2011+ JK Wrangler even though the shape and outlook didn't change.

Sorry for thread hijack , it's still about security system though.

Fortunately modern vehicles have factory immobilisers which do not allow above scenario. Add a good tracker with alarm helps tremendously.

if sum of the new holdens have the same cool trick where u pull out the hazards switch turn it upside down press it car starts witch i found funny and if they have blue tooth easy to get into them with a ipad with the right app

and sum repo guys have a flash little thing that can over ride everything looks cool but price tag and regulations on them have to be registered to have one


no mater how flash ur car is and what ever tracking ppl have smart crims are smart gps can be stoped with a cell jammer

You expect me to take you seriously, yet you don't know the difference between sum and some. Sure. My assessment, you don't know how vehicle security or onboard electronics work on modern vehicles. Stop believing all you read on the internet.
