This site provides access to DOC's GIS material and by using the various tools it can provide a lot of information. Once you are down to a modest scale it well provide cadastral data too.
It takes practice to use but the material is there.
Check out the unformed legal roads and Queens Chain in the proposed Kawatiri Heritage Park to the north of Westport.

yeah I found it a bit hard to use. found google earth a lot easier, except that on google earth it seems that only towns are visible.
does anyone else have the same problem. I want to get up close and personal with Pureora Forest and its just a big blur. does any one know why??

Another map system can be found at http://www.nztopoonline.linz.govt.nz/
