Is this a 1KZ Starter?

Post by Jerry »

Got this on TM cheap was told it was off a 95 Auto 1kz prado

My one 93 lists this in toyodiy.com
28100 STARTER ASSY
28100-67020 12V 2.7KW

Was told it was a 28100-67060

Toyodiy lists this and the 020 one for a 95
28100 STARTER ASSY
28100-67020 12V 2.7KW (05/1993 - 12/1994) 1 $774.78
28100-67060 12V 2.7KW (01/1995 - 03/1996) 1 $849.36

Autosparky had a look when he redid the battery terminals and said its totally wrong ... but defiantly a Toyota one

This is a 1kz starter, the motor and solenoid housing are the same length.

Bugger, that's a pi** off. I just bought a new one too, double bugger. You should be able to re sell it easy enough if you can't get your money back from them.

if your tight on funds, measure up the old one and see if it will bolt on and if it would engage the flywheel.
quite common for 2lte starters to be replaced by the 3l starter which looks a lot like the 1kz pic. they have different number of teeth but still work fine.
main difference between 2l and 2lte starters is the electrical connection.

I have seen an L series starter on a 1kz and it worked ok except for the fact it was a small starter and lacked the grunt of the bigger starters. If you can fit that one in there it should work ok, the top stud on the 1kz starter unscrews from the housing so just screw it into the starter you have.
