Off-roading with airbags

Was just wandering if it's safe or not to go 4wding around in a truck with airbags ? Is there a fuse I could disconnect without setting them off ? Or am I safe

you are safer with them than without.....

There are fine off road unless you impact a tree or rock at a fairly reasonable speed.
its the sudden stop that actives them, not bouncing around off road.

Dont wear set belt then they dont deploy under 20kmh is what i got told

They don't arm until 20km, and even then if the impact doesn't exceed a certain amount of force(G's) they wont deploy.

Not all vehicles have seat belt sensor connected to air bag system.

If the impact was big enough to deploy the air bags, you would be glad that they did. Normal offroad situations don't deploy them.

most airbag systems are disarmed in low range. nissan for example.

i know with some of the nissans, they don't disable airbags in low range, they change the sensitivity of the sensor. you have to hit a lot harder than normal to set it off.
if you hit something that hard and at high enough speed to set it off, you will be thankfull for the airbags.

Just remember what SRS stand for

SUPPLEMENTARY restraint system. ie it supplements the seat belt.

I suppose its like any other safety device, in general they will save your life but in the very odd instance they can do more damage than good. Seat belt, broken collar bone or flying out the window, I know which I'd choose haha.
As a morbid example, an old neighbour of my mums rolled his truck going too fast around a sharp bend, barely a scratch on him but the safety barrier twisted thru the cab and broke his neck, thus he is longer with us. Irony at its best. And no its not just Chinese whispers gossip, my dad was a fireman and both my parents were ambulance officers at the time.
Annnnyway, sad but true, any other 360 days of the year he would've walked away

yeah seatbelts can break collar bones but I figure the impact that breaks a single bone with a belt will more than break a whole person without one.
I cant find anything in my car I want to smash my face into so I wear my belt.
