If it is a Turbol it will increase it's performance ? {sick joke }, use 2.5" with a straight through muffler. The rumour is it may also save your cyl head

I run a 2.5" with a straight through muffler. it is only 2.5 from the flex joint back. No real noticeable performance increase but allegedly helps to get the exhaust away quicker and reduces overheating.
To get more boot out of the 2.4 there is no substitute for a pump overhaul.
Economy is massively increased. Power is up it is all good.
Other options include opening up the air intake a little, remove the throttle butterfly, wind up the boost.

Pump overhauls are done by a good diesel specialist. I believe that all the Denso pumps as fitted to the Surfs are sent to Alltech Diesel here on the Shore. I drove mine in-out for $1400 which was a pump overhaul, new water pump, belts and a couple of other small bits.

The overtemp alarm I have is part of a wider system that I have designed and fitted to prevent the old girl from doings its head.
it is triggered by the thermoswitch that usually runs the a/c fan.
The system sets an audible tone that can be cancelled/muted, it turns on the a/c electric fan, a warning light comes up on my second temp gauge.
I can also manually control the electric fan. My a/c system has been torn out which also allows a better airflow through the radiator.
