Wanting to fit a Surf trans (G52??) to a 22R engine?? Help p

Post by kaupoi »

Hi guys,

Not mechanic of the year but get by.

Bought a rolled 82 single cab hilux minus its gearbox, it has a 4 cylinder petrol in it, (22R i think??).
Wanting to fix her up so I can use it to launch our boat off the beach.

I was hoping my G series box would fit it but doesnt appear so, starter motors on the wrong side and so is the clutch ativator lever??

Can I just remove the bellhousing from the G series box and fit a bellhousing that will suite the petrol engine??

Your help is much appreciated.

Cheers.

Yes you will need the right bellhousing then you can swap it onto your gearbox and fit it.
Sounds like you need to determine if it is a 22R or a 3Y engine first though. Info should be on the plate on the fire wall.

Don't see why not.... the early 2 door surf/4runner came with a 22r/auto combination...the question is which auto thou? May need a toyota parts guru to confirm this for you.
