NISSAN PATROL 3.0DiS

Post by BGOSNZ »

Hi,

Does anyone here have one of these fellas or have any experience with them.

I am thinking of updating my wagon but am very attached to my GQ and don't want to trade the old beasts issues that can be fixed pretty easily for a bunch of black magic no one can understand properly if they are prone to problems.

I am assuming that is the ZD30 powered one.
There is nothing wrong with the patrol but the motors have a reputation for being a grenade.

Also from what I've seen there are a lot more GQ's around so they are easier to get parts for, assuming yours is in good nick and has the trusty TD42 then IMO it would be a downgrade. The ZD30's have a bad reputation, however it is possible to reduce/eliminate the risk of failure as shown in this thread:http://www.mypatrol4x4.com/topic/57-nads-step-by-step-guide/ But in general, this is how they are seen:

I was close to doing the same, but decided the GQ, although slow and noisy, hasn't missed a beat so was worth keeping. I am told the later 2005 onwards were reliable, but I'm not prepared to take an expensive gamble. You can pick up the odd later shape TD42 Safari on TM for similar $$ to the ZD30. One sold in ChCh for $14 a few weeks ago 220km, but me, in all my wisdom decided a $9k mountain bike was more important

Hi,

Thanks for the replies and opinions, the NADS thread was especially informative.

My old girl is a 92 in very good cond save a few dents and scratches with an after market turboed TD42, snorkel, lift kit, bars all round, winch, on 35's . There is nothing actually wrong with it other than the usual niggling issues for a vehicle thet is 22 yrs old and has done 320k km.

So unless I can find a good 4.2 GU I guess I will be best to continue my quest for a spare TD42 engine as I already have a good gearbox spare.

320km :D that's barely run in,
if it ain't broke don't fix it.
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

Hi,

I would like to have a spare engine and to be prepared in case of a failure as I don't get to use her much every year at mo I would not like to front up and have a major failure that consumes my whole time at home, if I have another lump it can be dropped in pretty quickly.

If anyone reading this has a silver top TD 42 NA or T engine they would like to part with I would be interested to know more about it.
