fj40 spare wheel carrier

Hi all I have a 1976 fj40 .....and have recently picked up a spare wheel carrier one of the square ones not tube type ..... when I came to put it on I found I have no bolt holes in the body where I guess it should attach ...... am I missing some thing silly ? Did all 40s come with a carrier ? Cheers for answering what is probably a stupid question

there's a good chance your fj40 has had multiple rust repairs done to the corners over the decades so the mounting holes and captive nuts probably went into the scrap bin years ago

the square frame carriers came out on the early 70's fj40's and the tube ones from mid 70's on but they should have all picked up the same mounts? If you have a look on the yank ih8mud forum there's more info about fj40's on there than the japs at Toyota have
