Hi fellas - I am super new to the 4X4 community - I have just purchased a 2006 MK Triton 4x4 (the 2.8 td). I bought it primarily to replace the missus's 2wd 98 mk Triton so she can tow her horse float out of a wet muddy paddock and still cart her hay / horse gear around, but looking at it on the driveway I am getting the dangerous urge to tinker and play - I keep thinking hmmm what can I do to and where can I go in that?

!!
If anyone has some handy hints or basic mods I should undertake it would be much appreciated!
Also if anyone knows any good spots for a total newbie to play without embarrassing himself it would be handy too

Thanks Greg, I am from Christchurch. You wouldn't know what may go wrong with the mk's, pretty sure I will be ok for a while (ute only has had one elderly owner and done 63500kms) but always good to know what to watch out for!

the are fairly bullet proof for a mitsi , just keep alll the oils as clean as pos and the vacuum actuators for the front diff shit them selfs if you get stranded with no 4wd and you need it you can justswap the vacuum lines over and you will then be set haha apart from that nothing that springs to mind

Couple more questions then I'll leave you alone - I promise!! Just need to abuse your knowledge one more time
Being that I bought the ute second hand, is it worth taking the triton to Mitsi dealer to have a full service or will me putting on my big boy boots, climbing under it, replacing the oils in the diffs, transfer case, gearbox and changing the diesel / air filter? Any recommendations for the gearbox oil or does it have to be the genuine Mitsi stuff?
Should I yank the radiator, oil cooler and intercooler also and flush / clean?
Ute goes alright and everything looks alright although it looks like the has been a bit of oil weep from the back of the rocker cover at some stage.
Thanks in advance!
Jed
