Space Gear 4m40 Swap to Pajero

Post by gary_in_nz »

Hi fellas, I'm not usually hanging round the Mitsi forum but scored a pajero for bugger all. Catch was needed another motor thrown in. Any how I got a 4m40 from a Spacegear van.

Everything is a bolt on swap over, front timing case, sump, oil cooler and where the dip stick goes. This is the issue at hand, the hole on the space gear block is not there for where the dipstick goes.

On the old motor the tube is only sealed by an o ring in the hole so my plan was to drill a hole in the new block to suite the old tube. I have measured and only have to drill mayby through 12-15mm of block as the recess is on the other side and the sumps are off any way so no problems cleaning out swarf.
Just basically looking for reassurance that this is the best way about things and has been done before like this!

cheers,
Gareth

drilled it and shes all good. for future reference: sorted the hole issue. drill down in the same spot with a 12mm drill bit then swap to a 10mm and finish the hole the rest of the way thorugh, maybe another 10 mm to go. going to a smaller diametre drill after the 12mm provides a shoulder the dipstick pipe to sit on.
