I have a 91 4runner/surf with a 3vze engine (3L v6 Petrol). The old girl has done 270000ks and as these motors do, uses shit loads of gas and has #### all power for its size.
Would it be worth doing anything to the injectors? Either replacing them or reconditioning?? Anybody suggest any good places do get either of these done? I am in invercargill for the next 2 months but then will be back up in chch so either place will do.
Cheers Pete
injectors
You can get an injector clean done on the car where they disconnect the fuel system and connect a pressurised injector clean mix for the engine to run on.
Not sure who does it though, wynns had a system so they might be able to reccomend a place to get it done.

Diesel Clean
I had a similar thing to this done a couple of years ago with my 4.2 Safari, and it was great. A lot cheaper then getting a proper injector clean done, and deffinetly cheaper than replacing the injectors. I can't remember prices now, but around $300 - $400 sounds familar, may be wrong though. But yea she never smoked again and there was deffinetly an increase in power. I remember the mechanic that did it, but won't help you cause hes up north of Auckland, it was a special product though that a lot of mechanics were using, just can't remember the damn name of it. I would find out for ya but I'm on the other side of the world so its a little tricky, if you wanted to find out the name of the product, the mechanic was Bradley Automotive in Silverdale.

Ah...
Hi there.
I have the same V6 and have done some work on it after I bought it.
Was looking for _good_ injector cleaning places in NZ (i.e. owning a proper machine to do that, ultrasound blah blah) - found only one place in Pukekohe, they do racing cars. I doubt if diesel shops can service petrol injectors properly, personally.
So I took them out, couriered to them and got them back in a few days. Cost around $160 for all 6. That included ultrasound cleaning, leak testing, flow testing and replacing all rubber seals - and they were brittle!
Anyway - the engine has only done 150K so there was no big difference in performance, although idle has somewhat improved. I am way happier though knowing the state of injectors now.
These engines are gutless from factory, however you can do something.
* Get a normal exhaust system - headers or complete replacement. Could be $800 or more....
* Drill out the bottom of the airbox, also remove the "cold air" crap in front of the airbox. Nicer throttle response
* Replace auto with manual gearbox - I am personally looking for a V6 Hilux with manual to get it from. Bolt-on exercise and not too difficult.
* Replace all silencers on intake with a straight pipe.
* Expensive engine mods.
Oh, and definitely get a new oxygen sensor - my truck has gained ~20% mileage just after replacing it. And don't get it from NZ - salesmen in this country are greedy bastards - wanted over $300 for it. Screw them I thought and got it from the States for $150.
